I was recently turned on to the idea of “Extreme Sports Events.” I’m not talking about the X-games or something easy like that…
If you check out badwater.com, you will learn about something called the Ultra Marathon. What is the Ultra Marathon, you ask? Well, it’s a 135 Mile race across Death Valley.
AdventureCORPS, an event production firm specializing in ultra-endurance and extreme sports events, will host the 30th Kiehl’s Badwater Ultramarathon on July 23-25, 2007. A true “challenge of the champions,” this legendary foot race pits approximately up to 90 of the world’s toughest athletes–runners, triathletes, adventure racers, and mountaineers–against one another and the elements. Covering 135 miles (217km) non-stop from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney, CA in temperatures up to 130F (55C), it is the most demanding and extreme running race offered anywhere on the planet.
You can sign me up in the “FUCK THAT” devision!
One pet peeve that I have is when pro baseball players sit out a game because they hurt their pinky or some totally minor (sounding) injury… Then, you find video a guy who’s missing half an arm and he plays guitar better better than most.

Wow, you can’t make up stuff this good. I seriously am wondering if they are paddling this barge up a river this way because they “have to” or because they “want to”. Either way, I wish I were there to see it.
